WRaPT will close on 31 October 2026. See below for what this means and how to get support.

After 10 years of workforce planning, insight and partnership, WRaPT is closing in October 2026.

Our team has been a partnership of experts in workforce transformation and cross‑economy healthcare — a multidisciplinary group of clinicians, workforce consultants and planners whose sole focus has been helping the NHS and care sectors solve workforce issues.

Our Tools

Our work was funded for many years by Health Education England and Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust. In recent years support was provided by Carados Ltd.
From October 2026, the following tools will be closed.

WPCT

Workforce Planning and Capacity Tool

An operational‑level planning tool for modelling day‑to‑day staffing at team level, with skills profiling, waiting times and caseload analysis.

WRaPT

Workforce Repository and Planning Tool

Our proprietary data processing, modelling and visualisation tool, used to model workforce at team, department, trust and cross‑economy level.

AMT

Advanced Modelling Tool

A bespoke option for large investment cases, adding a full financial component to model the cost impact of workforce change.

Introducing the AHCWP

The WRaPT tool has not had the investment to keep up with changing modelling needs, so the AHCWP has set up the centre of excellence for workforce modelling to provide the free advice and tools you need to model your specific challenges. AHCWP

The Association of Health and Care Workforce Planning

The Association of Health and Care Workforce Planning (AHCWP.com) was created in 2024 to provide networking and resources for workforce planners in the sector. The AHCWP provides free guides, training and podcasts. There are also networking events so you can share knowledge and experiences with other health and care workforce planners. Members can access free Excel‑based workforce models, and a new online tool is under development.

Membership is free and you can join the association here:

The WRaPT Approach

The five‑stage WRaPT process continues to be a blueprint for Workforce Planning. You can find more information about these stages by joining The Association of Health and Care Workforce Planning.

1

Define the Challenge

Engaging with stakeholders to build a brief and a plan for the workforce transformation ahead.

2

Understand Current State

Collating staff records and activity data, then cleaning and preparing it for modelling.

3

Develop Future State

Establishing a realistic future workforce, informed by clinical expertise and best practice.

4

Model Future State

Translating shifts in activity and workforce into numbers, and modelling future scenarios.

5

Implementation Support

Supporting organisations through their journey, from quick checks to full implementation.

Thank you

To every trust, team and colleague we've worked alongside — thank you for trusting us with your workforce planning challenges. It has been a privilege to support the people who plan for the people who deliver care.
